That is an amazing thing to hear!! Thank you for taking the time to write me a message :D
Definitely call around to schools, brain trauma clinics, nursing homes/rehabilitation centers, etc. The SLP I shadowed said that the more diverse experience you have - and the more diverse education - the better. For example, in my area, Wayne State U and Eastern U are options for grad school. However, the SLP said that the graduate students who come out of Eastern U only know how to work with kids, whereas the Wayne State U graduates are more well-rounded.
I was able to shadow an SLP at a rehabilitation center because a friend who works there set me up. My next call is going to be to my step-grandpa, who knows an SLP who works in a different type of environment. I thought that the job I observed at the rehabilitation center seemed great, but I realize I may not get to pick and choose jobs when I graduate. I need to see if I would also enjoy working in the other environments. Even shadowing just that one job was an eye-opener; I can’t wait to shadow more!
So yes, shadow lots! And if you remember to do so, let me know how it goes. :) Best of luck to you!! :D
